This is probably the only unused 1950s Patek Philippe in the world now. For the collector who wants box, paper, tag and unpolished, we are delighted to offer you the unprecedented opportunity to own this time capsule example at a very reasonable price. An 18ct yellow gold 35mm jumbo Patek Philippe Calatrava 3411 with center seconds from 1959. The date code on the paper dates this to September 1959 when the watch left the factory.
This is a new old stock that was kept away in a dealer’s safe for many decades in Chicago, USA then acquired by us and we continue to cherish it for the past years. Watch has never been worn, never polished and never serviced so it has never been taken apart except for opening the back cover to inspect and photograph. It is fitted with the original strap and buckle fitted as seen while the accompanying tag bears the matching serial numbers. The reflective chamfered edges of the lugs are clearly visible and so are the factory finishes. The solid gold case has taken on a patina due to oxidisation created by the passing of time.
An iconic design from the past century, this Calatrava with it’s timeless design has set the benchmark for luxury watches for almost a hundred years which still stands today.
It has the highly sought after Calibre 27SC movement that was finished to Geneva seal (Poinçon de Genève) standard with polished bridges, anglage, anti-shock, gold weight on balance & features an in-direct center seconds. The watch works and keeps time after six decades since manufacture and takes about 20 winds on the crown to full power reserve.
The dial features the traditional champlevé enamel signature, a coveted feature found on hi-end watches of the past that has been discontinued by mid-1960s. Solid gold and chamfered hour batons form the hours while the hands are in faceted dauphine shape made in gold, naturally.
There is no direct replacement for this model. A present-day manual winding Calatrava retails for S$49100.00 but does not have a sweep center seconds.
